Plant density and nitrogen fertilization optimization on sorghum grain yield in Mali

Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench], a staple food crop in Mali, has low yields for several reasons including that many farmers do not have the financial resources to purchase state-of-the-art genetics and fertilizers information is available on how optimize heirloom variety. To improve their economic environmental sustainability, Mali need understand invest limited resources. In situations this involves use of open-pollinated varieties range tillering capabilities. This study determined best population density nitrogen (N) fertilization combinations eight locally sorghum varieties. The research was conducted 2018 2019 experimental design split-split-plot randomized block, treatments were two plant densities (26,600 53,300 plants ha–1), three N levels (0 kg ha–1, 89 178 had characteristics. Each treatment replicated times six open pollinated. Results showed each variety different yield response rate.
